Almost Wordless Wednesday: Swell sculptures

The Swell Sculpture festival is on again and I plan on cruising down the Currumbin esplanade sometime this weekend to view and photograph the amazing sculptures on display in the open air. Today I want to share some of my favourite Swell sculptures from the last few years.

Enjoy!

The beach is the perfect venue to display these sculptures. I like them all, but think the runners are really fun!

It is perfect and makes for a great day out (the exhibition is always free so very family friendly), just have to remember to pack some sunblock and a hat :-). The runners were very well placed, I took quite a lot of photos in an effort to capture them looking as natural as possible.

Wow, I love these and I can’t wait to see what photos you get this year. Of course I’m rather fond of all the dogs ones. That last photo is priceless!

I’m always a sucker for the dog sculptures, I think that there is usually one sculpture every year that features our loyal canine companions. The last one doesn’t show off the sculpture so well but the interaction was awesome 🙂

They’re awesome and it will be interesting to see what the artists have come up with this year.

You must be looking forward to seeing the latest sculptures! I really like the last picture too – I wonder what happened next… 🙂

I am! Going tomorrow afternoon and might even take one of the black doggies with me (the better behaved in public one). I love that last picture, it was fun watching the reaction of the real dog as he didn’t quite now what to make of the creature in front of him 🙂

I’ve never been to Sculpture by the sea, but I just love the Swell Sculpture festival at Currumbin and can only image that the Sydney coastline would provide a great backdrop as well. Summer is definitely on the way 🙂

I’m hoping the weather stays good, we head to the beach tomorrow and at the moment there are a few clouds around. I love that last shot, you can tell that the dog doesn’t quite know what to make of the sculpture.

You’re right; swell sculptures! I like the “bronze” girl and the whales especially.

The bronze girl was a huge sculpture, from memory it was from the chest up and her face was at eye level. I love that the sculptures usually follow the theme of the environment in which they are exhibited.
