Far too big, far too many people in one hit flooding the poor tiny city, and not enough revenue for the locals to be worth the destruction…

Couldn’t agree more. I wonder how many tourist dollars go to the cruise company rather than being spent in Venice especially with cruise ships offering organised land tours.

It does spoil the view and even though we stood on a bridge watching it pass, I would rather watch the gondolas and the birds.

It would have been a wonderful shot without this big boat. Did you go on a gondola while in Venice ?

Thankfully I did manage to get some nice shots without the cruise ship 🙂 Yes, we went on a gondola and even though it is considered to be a very tourist thing to do, the different perspective you get is well worth it and I would love the opportunity to do it again in the quieter canals.

We are going Venice in a few weeks but we are still unsure about the Gondola tour. Do you have a good tip for a good tour (not too overpriced ?)

We booked ours through Viator and did a combined afternoon walking tour and gondola ride. Cheaper but shorter, all up the walking tour and gondola ride was about 2-3 hours. The sun was setting as we started the gondola ride which made it hard for taking lots of photos, but very pretty and romantic.
