Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit

Every afternoon we take our dogs for a walk around a wildlife refuge, home to a variety of birdlife and often the location of some really beautiful sunsets.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning!

This morning required getting up before sunrise in order to get my husband to the airport in time to catch an early morning flight. Normally hot air balloons are flying over our house en-route to somewhere more interesting however this morning we were lucky enough to see it departing from a field beside the motorway.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Up

As we go about our daily lives the tendency to look down rather than up is strong and it can prevent us from seeing some unusual and wonderful things. A friend and I spent a weekend in Melbourne, most of our time was spent chatting, shopping and eating so we never noticed the interesting sculptures sitting above the traffic lights until our last day in the city. There was one on all four traffic lights at the intersection (hence four pics instead of the usual one), you only had to look up.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Color

My fondness for photographing flowers is evident in this gallery, pretty blooms in many shades of pink from the palest of pinks through to the bright, vibrant pinks, they really stand out against the green foliage which is no surprise considering red and green are complementary colours and bring out the best in each other.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Beyond

Beyond the sunset

Just Beyond The Sunset

Just beyond the sunset
Someone waits for me
Just beyond the sunset
Lies my destiny
Where the purple mountains
Lie in deep tranquillity
There I’ll find the treasure
Of love eternally

Just beyond the sunset
Waits someone so fair
Just beyond the sunset
All alone they wait there
Their hair is golden
The colour of the sand
Their eyes sparkle in the night
Like diamonds in your hand

Just beyond the sunset
Lies a home for me
Where the world is peaceful
Like a paradise should be
Just beyond the sunset
Someday is where you’ll find me

Weekly Photo Challenge: My 2012 in pictures

Welcome to my 2012 in pictures, it has been a hectic time in my life with many changes, most of them positive but as always, a few not so great moments that caused sadness and a little stress. This particular photo challenge is perfect for reviewing the past year, there were some moments that I had completely forgotten about such as the Italian cooking class and in scrolling through thousands of images I realise that I really need to do something about cataloging and archiving my photographs.

Happy New Year! Wishing you everything that makes you smile for 2013 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate

Delicate baby's feet

The soft and delicate feet of a baby, so cute and fresh, still very pink and wrinkly.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflection

Summer is here with a vengance, it has been a few years since we had consistently hot weather and predictions over the weekend were for a week of temperatures in the high thirties (celsius). Yesterday was hot, air conditioned offices were a blessing and the storm that hit last night a huge relief. We had put up some of the Christmas fairy lights on Sunday afternoon, solar powered of course, and as the rain poured down, I noticed that water pooling on the pavers allowed for a colourful reflection of lights that we stuck in the garden. Tonight there is no such relief, today reached 39 degrees and overnight we’ll only see the temperature drop to about 24 degrees and there is no rain predicted so no more funky, colourful reflections.

My parents, they encouraged a love of travel from an early age.

As you can see I am thankful for many things, but there are many more where those came from. Aussies call Australia the ‘lucky country’, I don’t know that we are any luckier than residents of other countries however I am thankful for the opportunities we have, the abundance of space and access to good food, healthcare, education and at the moment, a low rate of unemployment.

Globally I am thankful for the amazing people that rescue animals from cruelty and those that work to help communities overcome natural disasters such as drought, floods and earthquakes. I am thankful for the wonderful places that are open to travellers/tourists like me and for the blogging community who share their experiences, their lives and their loves and provide support for fellow bloggers.

The list is endless, today I am thankful to be alive and able to share my photos and stories with you.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Green

These ‘green’ images were taken during our scrappy adventure in Europe, most of the photos were taken in Italy. At the time it was Spring and green landscapes were in abundance but rather than share the copious number of landscape shots I thought it might be a little more interesting to find other green things in my album.
